The United States National Grid or USNG is a standardized "language of location" tool for Emergency Responders, GIS professionals, other government agencies and the general public to communicate accurate location information quickly either by maps, GPS receivers or smartphones.
The USNG can be used for dispatching to incidents, natural disaster operations, search and rescue, missing persons, law enforcement forensic marking of evidence and trail markings.
USNG Iowa is a group of GIS and Emergency Responders who understand the power of the USNG to clearly communicate location information in times of crisis. Whether using maps, GPS units, or smartphones the USNG can quickly and accurately communicate your location. It is our plan to have all local, county, and state government entities fully adopt and implement the USNG as the common "language of location" in emergency communications.
